Maria Kari
Maria Kari is a human rights lawyer and journalist. After earning her law degree in Canada and a brief stint in corporate law, Maria relocated to the United States to pursue an LL.M. at Georgetown University. Since the start of the genocide in Gaza, Maria has worked pro bono through her nonprofit (www.projecttaha.org). She has filed four lawsuits against the Biden administration for its failure to protect US citizens in Gaza, which helped evacuate around 80 Americans. She co-created the Gaza Family Project, which reunited Palestinian Americans with their relatives in Gaza. She co-authored three amicus briefs for DCIP v. Biden (the genocide litigation).
Maria currently represents Momodou Taal and several other students who are threatened by the Trump administration's 'Catch and Revoke' policy. She also represents the "world's most oppressed woman," Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, who is serving 86 years in prison for crimes she did not commit. Maria's cases are frequently featured in mainstream media, including CNN, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and The Guardian.
